How to do Namsan right
There are three ways up the mountain from Myeongdong: the cable car (₩15,000 round trip, 09:00–23:00), whose lower station is a 10-minute walk from Myeongdong Station Exit 3; the free Namsan bus 01A/01B, which loops up from the subway stations at the mountain's base; or your own legs — about 40 minutes up the stair path from Myeongdong, genuinely pleasant after dark when the path is lit.
At the top, the plaza terraces are free: full skyline, the wall of love locks, and the tower lit up above you. The ₩21,000 observatory adds ~100 m of height and a pane of glass between you and the city. On a crisp clear evening — typically late autumn and winter — it's worth it and you can see for tens of kilometers. On an average hazy day it flatly isn't, and no refund fixes that. This is a decide-at-the-door ticket, not a book-ahead one.
Timing: arrive 45 minutes before sunset so you get daylight, golden hour and the city lighting up in one visit.
